Gear changes are achieved simply by reversing the direction of rotation, with the winch automatically returning to first gear when the load is released.

The KSW40 retrieves line up to 6 times faster than a standard winch of similar size, dramatically reducing the number of handle turns required. This results in faster tacks, gybes and hoists, improved boat speed and reduced effort for the crew. The self-tailing system also removes the need to manually take up slack, keeping manoeuvres smooth, safe and efficient.
